Awakening the Modern Warrior
In this article, I aim to discuss the concept of the ‘modern warrior,’ as I perceive it within the ethos of Man O' War.
In my view, a warrior is not necessarily someone in the military, a samurai, or a knight.
Rather, I see a warrior as someone who fights for something, who is willing to give everything for a cause or conviction – someone who battles for life itself.
Human Evolution and Survival Through Millennia
As we know, humans have existed for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years.
We have traversed a multitude of living conditions.
Our ancestors have experienced diverse ways of life, each marked by unique challenges and influences.
Currently, each person reading this leads a distinct life, influenced by a variety of factors.
How we handle these influences shapes our existence.
In the past, particularly around 8,000 to 150,000 years ago, people lived in nature, where conditions were relatively more challenging, dangerous, and complex.
Having little control over their environment, their choices were often dictated by external forces beyond their influence.
They could not always protect themselves and their families from things like mammoths or unexpected snowstorms.
Some succumbed to these external conditions, but others survived long enough to reproduce, thus ensuring the continuation of their lineage.
A new generation that also had to survive under the same rough circumstances.
Our Ancestral Influence on Modern Behavior
The point I want to make is that in this society, there are at least several thousand years, removed from that starting period where we all originated from.
You can almost not comprehend it. Well, let’s say it differently, you can simply not comprehend it!
Many aspects of our DNA remain tuned to that period of living in nature. It is our blueprint that has transcended millennia (thousands of years). That has been crafted in the wild.
This means there is a certain predictability in human behavior. A blueprint that can be accessed and used!
In today’s modern society, there are people among us that have studied human nature.
Scientist, politicians, marketeers, psychologists, just to name a few. They are experts in human nature.
By understanding how our ancestors interacted with their environment, they can predict certain behaviors.
For instance, our attraction to bright colors, which in nature might have signified food or danger, still influences our reactions today.
Our modern society is engineered to capitalize on these innate tendencies, using them to trigger specific behaviors in us.
We are bombarded by things that (consciously aim to) trigger us to act in a certain way or to indulge in a certain behavior.
Navigating the Challenges of Modern Life
If you don’t have control over these external forces, you end up not having control over your own thoughts, feelings, fears, and impulses.
You might get carried away by all sorts of external things;
- like getting caught up in the news
- the current political scene
- someone yelling in the street
- a baby crying on a plane
- endlessly scrolling through social media
These are just a few examples.
If you aren’t strong enough to handle these external triggers, you’re pretty much like a leaf blowing in the wind, going wherever it takes you.
Staying Disciplined Amidst the Chaos
At Man O' War, what we’re all about is getting a handle on that chaos, that whirlwind of complexity around us that makes us feel and act a certain way.
We’re here to help you take control of it.
Our goal?
To make you strong enough to stand your ground in that storm, to carve out your own view of the world, dive into things that really grab your interest, and pick up skills you’re keen on learning.
It’s about making a living in a way you believe in, not just trudging to work while life zips past, leaving you drained and depressed.
We want you to really get a grip on life. Not just controlling things, but being fully aware of the chaos you’re in.
A constant battle against both internal weaknesses and external factors.
The Constant Battle
It’s a non-stop fight against the part of you that’s weak, lazy, and just wants to chill, watch Netflix and eat fast food all day.
But remember, there’s another side to you – your conscience, that wise voice inside telling you what’s right, even when you don’t feel like listening.
We want to bring that voice out into the open, empower it and make it more disciplined:
You must train yourself to be a conqueror. A conqueror of your own mind.
This means constant practice. It means exposing yourself to external influences in a way that you can train and test yourself in order to become stronger.
That’s how you become more disciplined, stronger, and tougher, especially when you’re up against all these unnatural challenges and influences.
Embracing the Warrior Within
The modern warrior represents the battle against internal struggles and external pressures.
By recognizing our roots and the ancient trials of our ancestors, we gain insights into our natural responses and instincts.
This deeper understanding equips us to approach the modern world with enhanced awareness and stronger discipline.
By strengthening our inner warrior, it enables us to more effectively manage the complexities and challenges of today’s life, leading to a more meaningful and purpose-driven existence.
